  • People come to see me because they are in personal crisis.  This crisis has a trigger; something has recently occurred and has set off a chain reaction of thoughts and reactions.  The symptoms might include panic attacks, phobia, depression, uncontrollable anger, breakdown in relationships or any number of things which have left them feeling like they are unable to cope. Our ability to “cope” is as varied as humanity itself.  We have certain innate characteristics, all of which are buildt upon by the experiences we have had throughout life.  This leaves us with what I shall call our own individual Coping DNA©. It is our coping DNA, rather than the crisis trigger, which counselling can help us unravel.  In learning how we are constructed and how to deal with maladaptive coping mechanisms we can regain our emotional and mental health.
